Swimming with a 20-foot great white shark might sound like a scene straight out of a thriller movie, but for marine biologist Ocean Ramsey, it was an exhilarating and awe-inspiring experience. Ramsey had the rare opportunity to encounter this massive predator off the coast of Oahu, Hawaii.

The Encounter

Ramsey, who has been studying great white sharks for over a decade, was conducting research on tiger sharks when she came face to face with the enormous great white.

No Fear

Despite its intimidating size, Ramsey felt no fear. She explained that sharks like this one swim alongside surfers, swimmers, and divers every day without incident. “It’s so rare that they ever make a mistake,” she said.
