A Florida driver recently captured the attention of TikTok users with a video showcasing a peculiar sight: a road lined with abandoned cars. The footage, which has since gone viral, reveals a collection of vehicles in pristine condition, including some enviable models like a Ford Super Duty Truck.

These drivers are prohibited from parking their trucks near their homes, so they leave them on Tank Road and commute in their personal vehicles.

Florida HOA rules allow for organizations to enforce strict rules regarding parking, particularly in neighborhoods. While there is some gray area regarding public roads and spaces, the strict guidelines have many people, understandably, cautious about parking somewhere they might get a ticket. The original poster, who identified himself as John Asbury, pointed out that it appeared that garbage was being dumped on the corner of this road as well. Further conversation with locals revealed that many people are aware of the use of the road as a so-called “local parking lot.” Florida HOA rules allow neighborhood associations to not only determine which cars can be parked and where, but also for how long. Some neighborhoods have rules so strict as to only allow cars to be parked in a single spot for 24 hours.

This particular restriction offers an explanation for why some of the cars appeared to have not been moved for weeks or months. For some cars, they’re simply not allowed to be parked in the driveway of a home depending on rules, and not everyone has room in their garage to park their car.

The road in question, according to locals, is one that borders Polk and Osceola counties in the state. Different counties have different rules for parking and other municipal guidelines, offering an explanation for the lax parking rules.

When presented with the video, Brian Bruchey of the Polk County Sheriff’s office stated that he couldn’t determine on sight if the road was Tank Road or not. If it was, though, the cars were parked on the Osceola side of the county line, removing the parking situation from their jurisdiction.

The sheriff did go on to state that even if there was a “situation” regarding the parking, his office hadn’t received any complaints about it. The use of public space for parking is a small issue in the grand scheme of things, though some of the commenters in the Tiktok video disagreed.

One commenter stated that the road itself was a mess, given how it bordered the two county lines, and another went further to inform other commenters that there was a school nearby.
